Apr\u00e8s la flagellation, o\u00f9 J\u00e9sus a r\u00e9par\u00e9 plus sp\u00e9cialement nos p\u00e9ch\u00e9s de la chair, vient le couronnement d\u2019\u00e9pines. La t\u00eate est le si\u00e8ge des pens\u00e9es et par ces \u00e9pines qui le transpercent, J\u00e9sus vient r\u00e9parer ici nos p\u00e9ch\u00e9s de l\u2019esprit. Ceux-ci ont tous pour racine l\u2019orgueil et la contemplation du couronnent d\u2019\u00e9pines va nous aider \u00e0 combattre ce p\u00e9ch\u00e9 et \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper au contraire l\u2019humilit\u00e9.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Pour y arriver, le premier moyen que tous les saints ont mis en \u0153uvre est la consid\u00e9ration de sa propre faiblesse. \"The perfection of the present life consists in recognizing its imperfections.<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb dira Saint J\u00e9r\u00f4me. Saint Philippe de N\u00e9ri priait tous les jours Dieu de le surveiller\u00a0: \"Lord, watch over me today, for, left to myself, I'll be sure to offend you.\" <\/em>En effet, en pla\u00e7ant notre esprit dans cette disposition, nous nous m\u00e9fions avec raison de nous-m\u00eames, et nous comprenons la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00eatre aid\u00e9s par la pri\u00e8re et les sacrements, absolument n\u00e9cessaires pour palier notre faiblesse humaine.<\/p>\n

Et saint Alphonse de Liguori explique : \"To persevere in the good, we must not trust the resolutions we have made, nor the promises we have made to God. As soon as we rely on our own strength, we are lost.<\/strong>. It's in the merits of Jesus Christ<\/strong> whom we must place all our hope to keep us in the state of grace.\" <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Apr\u00e8s la prise de conscience de notre faiblesse, une deuxi\u00e8me consid\u00e9ration est essentielle pour nous pr\u00e9server de l\u2019orgueil\u00a0: rien ne vient de nous. Tout vient de Dieu de sa gr\u00e2ce. Nous avons une qualit\u00e9\u00a0? La bonne affaire. Ce n\u2019est qu\u2019un don re\u00e7u de Dieu. Un don, loin de nous cr\u00e9er une quelconque fiert\u00e9, doit nous conduire \u00e0 une grande reconnaissance envers Dieu et nous faire craindre la responsabilit\u00e9 qu\u2019il implique. C\u2019est la parabole des talents. C\u2019est pour cela que Saint Pie X avait peur d\u2019aller en enfer\u00a0! Mentionnons ici un nom \u00e0 la mode depuis quelques temps\u00a0: les charismes. Ce mot est un pi\u00e8ge. Il exprime en lui-m\u00eame une notion de qualit\u00e9 personnelle sans la notion de \u201cdon\u201c.\u00a0 Fatalement, on a vite fait de se prendre pour l\u2019auteur du \u00ab\u00a0charisme\u00a0\u00bb, ce qui am\u00e8ne irr\u00e9m\u00e9diablement \u00e0 l\u2019orgueil. Nous n\u2019avons pas de charismes. Nous n\u2019avons que des dons re\u00e7us de Dieu.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir maitris\u00e9 ainsi notre esprit il faut ensuite le pr\u00e9parer aux attaques de Satan avant m\u00eame que la tentation n\u2019arrive car l\u2019esprit est ardent mais la chair est faible<\/em>. Saint Alphonse de Liguori nous explique les b\u00e9n\u00e9fices d\u2019un tel travail pr\u00e9paratoire : \"It is very useful, in order to triumph in spiritual battles, to prevent them in our meditations, by we have in advance <\/strong>to resist with all our might the attacks that may surprise us<\/em>. \u00bb En effet, s\u2019entra\u00eener \u00e0 refuser une tentation avant sans la subir encore est bien plus facile \u00e0 faire que lorsque sa s\u00e9duction est l\u00e0. Ainsi, nous fortifions progressivement notre volont\u00e9. C\u2019est pour cela que J\u00e9sus nous demande dans le Our Father<\/em> de prier sans cesse pour r\u00e9sister aux tentations futures\u00a0: ne nous laissez pas succomber \u00e0 la tentation<\/em>. Et dans le Hail Mary<\/em> nous demandons chaque jour l\u2019aide de la Sainte Vierge en anticipation de la grande tentation finale que nous conna\u00eetrons \u00e0 l\u2019heure de notre mort.<\/p>\n

Enfin, le couronnement d\u2019\u00e9pines ne se limite pas \u00e0 la r\u00e9paration de nos p\u00e9ch\u00e9s. Il vient aussi r\u00e9parer la terrible indiff\u00e9rence des hommes qui ne pensent pas \u00e0 Dieu alors que Dieu pense \u00e0 eux et les aime \u00e0 chaque instant. Combien de journ\u00e9es enti\u00e8res sans penser une seule fois \u00e0 Lui\u00a0? Sans Lui faire la moindre visite au tabernacle Lui qui y est r\u00e9ellement pr\u00e9sent. Oui, terrible indiff\u00e9rence qui fait tant souffrir le C\u0153ur de J\u00e9sus. C\u2019est le point central du message de Paray-Le-Monial. \u00ab\u00a0Ce c\u0153ur qui a tant aim\u00e9 les hommes et qui ne re\u00e7oit qu\u2019indiff\u00e9rence\u2026\u00a0\u00bb <\/em>On se scandalise volontiers face aux offenses et blasph\u00e8mes contre le Christ. Mais est-ce qu\u2019on se scandalise par notre propre indiff\u00e9rence \u00e0 son \u00e9gard\u00a0? Il a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 Paray Le Monial l\u2019Heure Sainte du jeudi soir et la communion des 1ers<\/sup> vendredis. Qui s\u2019en pr\u00e9occupe\u00a0? Au cours de ses journ\u00e9es, un v\u00e9ritable chr\u00e9tien doit penser des dizaines de fois \u00e0 Dieu\u00a0: Lui offrir ses souffrances, Le remercier pour ses joies, L\u2019admirer dans la beaut\u00e9 de la nature, Lui demander conseil dans ses d\u00e9cisions, Lui confier une personne dans la difficult\u00e9, etc. Et fr\u00e9quemment lever les yeux vers Lui sans raisons, m\u00eame une seconde, pour juste le louer. On appelle cela les oraisons spontan\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Au-del\u00e0 de nos p\u00e9ch\u00e9s de la pens\u00e9e, le couronnement d\u2019\u00e9pines a une deuxi\u00e8me signification tr\u00e8s importante. En effet, en voulant se moquer de J\u00e9sus, les bourreaux vont en fait apporter un t\u00e9moignage de Sa Royaut\u00e9 (1).\u00a0 C\u2019est ce que fera aussi Pilate par la suite sur l\u2019\u00e9criteau de la croix\u00a0: \"Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews<\/em>\u00a0\". Finally, it was Jesus himself who affirmed this during his interrogation: \u00ab\u00a0Tu le dis, je suis Roi.\u00a0(Jn 18\u00a0:37)\u00a0\u00bb. <\/em>And before His Ascension, Jesus will proclaim this Royalty in the true sense of the word: \u00ab\u00a0Toute puissance M’a \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9e au ciel et sur la terre. Allez donc et enseignez all nations.\u00a0<\/strong>(Mt 28:18)\"<\/em><\/p>\n

A famous 19th-century cardinal\u00e8me<\/sup> In the 19th century, Cardinal Pie made a wise remark about Jesus' words: \"Notice, my brothers, Jesus Christ does not say all men, all individuals, all families, but all nations<\/strong>. \"<\/em> Le fait que J\u00e9sus-Christ soit non seulement le Roi de nos c\u0153urs, de nos familles, mais aussi King of all nations, <\/strong>i.e. of all societies, is a reality taught by the popes. And it's one of the most disputed points of modern times, because it's essential. Pope Leo XIII explained it extremely clearly: \"He who is the Creator and also the Redeemer of human nature, the Son of God, is the King and Master of the universe and possesses sovereign power over mankind taken separately, either incorporated<\/strong>. The law of Christ must therefore be of such value that it serves to direct and govern not only private life, but also public life<\/strong>. \" Encyclical De Christo Redemptore, 1900<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Following in his footsteps, on December 11, 1925 Pope Pius XI published the encyclical Quas Primas<\/em> dans laquelle la f\u00eate du Christ-Roi est institu\u00e9e: \"It is self-evident that the name and power of King must be bestowed, in the truest sense of the word<\/strong>, au Christ dans son humanit\u00e9\u00a0; car c\u2019est seulement du Christ en tant qu\u2019homme qu\u2019on peut dire\u00a0: Il a re\u00e7u du P\u00e8re la puissance, l\u2019honneur et la royaut\u00e9\u00a0; comme Verbe de Dieu, consubstantiel au P\u00e8re, il ne peut pas ne pas avoir tout en commun avec le P\u00e8re et, par suite, la souverainet\u00e9 supr\u00eame et absolue<\/strong> sur les cr\u00e9atures.\u00a0\u00bb <\/em>Pope Pius XI then recalls the words of the angel Gabriel, which attest to this Royalty: \u00ab\u00a0Rappelons seulement le message de l\u2019archange apprenant \u00e0 la Vierge qu\u2019Elle engendrera un Fils, qu\u2019\u00e0 ce Fils le Seigneur Dieu donnera le tr\u00f4ne de David<\/strong>, Son p\u00e8re\u00a0; qu\u2019Il will reign <\/strong>on the house of Jacob and that His reign<\/strong> will have no end.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Finally, Pope Pius XI concluded\u00a0: \u00ab Sa Royaut\u00e9 [du Christ ndlr] exige que the entire state is governed by God's commandments<\/strong> and Christian principles both in legislation and in the dispensation of justice, and in the training of youth in sound doctrine and discipline of morals\". <\/em>Et c\u2019est pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce que Satan s\u2019attache \u00e0 d\u00e9truire. En effet une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 chr\u00e9tienne dont le gouvernement et les lois se conforment aux lois divines donne un cadre terrestre puissant pour aider les \u00e2mes \u00e0 aller au Ciel. A l\u2019inverse, une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 ath\u00e9e la\u00efque, coup\u00e9e de Dieu, permet par ses lois de pervertir les hommes, de les s\u00e9parer de Dieu et de les conduire vers l\u2019Enfer. Pie XI appelle ce la\u00efcisme \"the plague of our time <\/em>and Cardinal Pie said: \u00ab L’erreur dominante, le crime capital de ce si\u00e8cle, c’est la pr\u00e9tention de soustraire la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 publique au gouvernement et \u00e0 la loi de Dieu\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em> This is the famous \"separation of Church and State\", a sophism that in reality means eliminate God from society<\/strong>. Isn't that the very definition of Hell? A place cut off from God.<\/p>\n

The result is a host of evils, and man is gradually crushed by this atheistic society. Pope Benedict XV said at the 1era<\/sup> world war : \u00ab C’est l’ath\u00e9isme l\u00e9gal \u00e9rig\u00e9 en syst\u00e8me de civilisation qui a pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9 le monde dans un d\u00e9luge de sang \u00bb.<\/em> Yes, wars, genocides, persecutions, violence, social strife and totalitarianism are nothing more or less than the direct consequence of having withdrawn our societies from the power and law of Christ the King.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>So what's to be done? Pius XI answered this question\u00a0<\/strong>: \"Do we want to work in the most effective way to restore peace? let's restore Christ's Reign<\/strong>. Pas de paix du Christ sans le r\u00e8gne du Christ.<\/em> And he continues: \"The day when states and governments make it their sacred duty to regulate their political life, both within and without, according to the teachings and precepts of Jesus Christ, then, but only then, will they enjoy an internal peace of mind. profitable peace<\/strong>, entretiendront des rapports de mutuelle confiance, et r\u00e9soudront pacifiquement les conflits qui pourraient surgir. \u00bb Encyclique Urbi Arcano Dei Consilio, 1922. <\/em>Aujourd\u2019hui, humainement parlant, il est impossible de r\u00e9tablir le r\u00e8gne du Christ couronn\u00e9. Mais Notre Dame est justement venue \u00e0 Fatima pour \u00e7a\u00a0!<\/p>\n

Avons-nous remarqu\u00e9 ce fait incroyablement symbolique\u00a0? Le 10 d\u00e9cembre 1925 la Sainte Vierge vient demander les 1ers<\/sup> samedis du mois pour obtenir la paix et le salut du monde. Le lendemain, 11 d\u00e9cembre 1925, le Pape Pie XI publiera son encyclique sur la Royaut\u00e9 sociale de Notre Seigneur. C\u2019est Elle qui, lorsque nous auront ob\u00e9i \u00e0 Ses demandes de Fatima, restaurera le Christ dans sa royaut\u00e9 sur terre.<\/p>\n

Two phrases from the Gospel concerning the Kingdom of Our Lord are often misinterpreted, and we'd like to shed some additional light on them outside meditation.<\/em><\/p>\n

1\/ \"Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's\".<\/strong><\/p>\n

This phrase is sometimes perceived as indicating a separation between the State (Caesar) and God. Let's take a look at how the Church teaches us to understand it. Every human being is both a temporal being living on earth and a spiritual being destined for Heaven. Here on earth, therefore, he will be subject to two distinct types of authority: the State and the Church. The aim of the State is to ensure the physical and moral well-being of all its citizens; to achieve this, it must implement laws in many areas, including the moral sphere, as explained by Pope John XXIII: \"The \"common good\" that the state has to defend includes all conditions, including moral and spiritual conditions<\/strong>They help man reach his ultimate goal, which is paradise.<\/em> Pacem in Terris<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Church \"\u00a0for its part, is a society distinct from the State, \"perfect\" in the sense that it has everything in itself to accomplish its mission, which is to lead souls to Heaven.\"<\/em> \u00a0Leo XIII, Immortale Dei<\/em>. The Church alone is therefore entrusted with the task of dispensing God's grace through the sacraments and teaching faith and morals. The Church is therefore Visit<\/strong> a general moral reference for both private and public life.<\/p>\n

The result is that the State is independent of the Church <\/strong>to ensure a fair material organization of society (rendering to Caesar what is Caesar's) and that, on the other hand, the Church's teaching is his reference point <\/strong>for spiritual and moral matters (rendering to God what is God's). Church and State are therefore neither \"merged\" nor \"separated\", but \".distinct\"<\/strong> within their remit. Together, with mutual respect and genuine collaboration, they help to create a favourable framework on earth to help \"man to reach his ultimate goal, which is paradise.\"<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

2\/ \"My kingdom is not of this world\".<\/strong><\/p>\n

This phrase is often taken to mean that Christ would not be King of the Nations on earth. Here again, let's look at this in the light of Church teaching. God is an eternal spirit who made heaven and earth. His Kingdom is therefore spiritual and material, eternal, pre-existent on earth, and totally transcends the limits of our visible world, whether in essence, space or time. Consequently, His infinite Kingdom cannot come from this small, finite world of ours. But this does not mean that our world, which He created entirely, is not an integral part of His global Kingdom - quite the contrary.<\/p>\n

Far from \"excluding\" our world from His Kingdom, Christ will on the contrary solemnly affirm His earthly Kingship: \u00ab Toute puissance M’a \u00e9t\u00e9 donn\u00e9e au ciel et sur la terre. Allez donc et enseignez all nations. <\/strong>(Mt 28:18) \u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n

3\/ In conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Consid\u00e9rons une troisi\u00e8me phrase du Christ lorsqu\u2019Il s\u2019adresse \u00e0 Ponce Pilate :  \u201cTu n\u2019aurais point de pouvoir si tu ne l\u2019avais re\u00e7u d\u2019en haut. (Jn19 :11)\u00bb<\/em>. <\/em>Que signifie-t-elle ? Le Christ guide les hommes et exerce Son pouvoir sur la terre de fa\u00e7on indirecte en le d\u00e9l\u00e9guant \u00e0 des chefs humains. Il va confier le pouvoir spirituel aux papes et le pouvoir temporel aux chefs d\u2019\u00e9tats et Il explique ici que ce pouvoir vient de Dieu (et non du peuple). En cons\u00e9quence, et comme dans tout principe de d\u00e9l\u00e9gation, les \u201cd\u00e9l\u00e9gu\u00e9s\u201c doivent exercer leur pouvoir en \u00e9tant soumis \u00e0 Celui qui le leur d\u00e9l\u00e8gue. Ceci est valable aussi bien pour l\u2019\u00c9glise que pour l\u2019\u00c9tat.<\/p>
